The main cause of conflicts in young Jewish families

31 october 2023 y. / Michel Rocquet

Quotes:

"And Moses heard the people weeping in their families" (Bemidbar 11: 10).

* The reaction of the people of Israel to the commandment on forbidden relationships and marriage unions between members of the same family.

The sages explain that the Jews wept when they realized that they were now forbidden to take close relatives into marriage unions. In the early days, Jews believed that you should take the most similar person (and even a relative) as the second half. The Torah did not agree with this custom and forbade such marriages, commanding to take a different person as a wife/husband, combining different people into a union. Since they accepted this commandment with strife and torment, they continue to fulfill this commandment as well. Proof of these words is the fact that there is no ktuba and wedding, in which there would be no quarrels between the parties.

Comment:

In life (and not only in the family) we face various conflict situations. There can be many reasons for conflicts in the family: financial disadvantage, lack of knowledge of the spouse's love language, frequent presence of strangers in the house, excessive concentration on children, lack or lack of information about the world in the family, everyday issues and misunderstandings, etc. The root of all these reasons for quarrels and discord in young families is the difference of views. The main thing is that if you meet with a different opinion at home, do not be afraid of it. Because I am now Us, and my home is our common territory. The Torah itself commanded us to unite different people in unions in order to work together to reach a common denominator.
